A resume objective is the one-line pitch at the top of your resume. For students with no work history, it's the most-read sentence on the page — and the easiest one to get wrong. Here are 20 modern examples you can copy, edit, and use today.

The objective formula

[Who you are] + [what you want] + [one specific thing you bring]. Keep it under 30 words. No "hardworking team player seeking opportunities" energy.

High school student examples

  1. "High school junior with 60+ volunteer hours seeking a part-time retail role to apply customer-service experience from food-bank work."
  2. "Senior and varsity captain looking for a summer host position that uses my proven punctuality (4 years perfect attendance)."
  3. "Sophomore with strong math grades seeking a peer tutor role at the community center."
  4. "Sixteen-year-old seeking a first job in food service; certified in Food Handler safety and available 20 hrs/week."

College student / internship examples

  2. "Marketing junior with 2 client projects and a 12K-follower TikTok seeking a brand-strategy internship."
  3. "Mechanical engineering student seeking a manufacturing co-op; hands-on with SolidWorks and 3D printing through 3 capstone-style projects."
  4. "Finance major with completed Bloomberg certification seeking a summer analyst role focused on equity research."
  5. "Bilingual (English/Spanish) psychology junior seeking a research-assistant role in clinical study design."

First-job (no degree, no experience) examples

  1. "Reliable 18-year-old seeking a warehouse associate role; lifted & loaded 100+ boxes/shift in volunteer food-drive work."
  2. "Recent graduate seeking an entry-level administrative role; comfortable in Excel and Google Workspace after 4 years of school use."
  3. "Self-taught video editor seeking a junior content role; produced 30+ short-form videos for school clubs in 2025."

Trades & apprenticeship examples

  1. "Recent grad pursuing an electrical apprenticeship; completed 120 hours of CTE wiring labs and holds OSHA-10."
  2. "Welding-certified 19-year-old (AWS D1.1) seeking a fabrication helper position; comfortable with MIG, TIG, and stick."
  3. "HVAC trade-school student seeking a residential install helper role; EPA 608 certified."

"Career changer" student examples

  1. "Former retail lead returning to school for CS; seeking a junior dev internship that values team-management experience."
  2. "Military veteran completing a 6-month coding bootcamp; seeking an entry-level backend role at a security-focused team."

What NOT to write

  1. "Looking for a job that will help me grow." — about you, not the employer.
  2. "Hardworking team player seeking opportunities." — invisible.
  3. "To obtain a position where I can utilize my skills." — every recruiter has read this 10,000 times.
